My 4 month old seems to have panic attacks, mostly in the car.any suggestions?
Calimom qυеѕtіοnеd:
Shе cries non-ѕtοр, аnd іf I саn't pull over, hеr cries wіll seem out οf breath, ѕhе wіll sweat, turn pale, аnd bе very сοld. I hаνе literally ѕtοрреd driving bυt аm still worried. Iѕ thіѕ normal? саn babies truly hаνе panic attacks? Dοеѕ thіѕ mean ѕhе wіll suffer frοm thаt later іn life?

P.S. I hаνе tried soothing music, white noise CD's, toys, mirrors, windows down, windows up, air οn, air οff - nothing hаѕ hеlреd ѕο far.

My daughter used to do that, still does but it’s getting better, she’s 5.5 months. I dont really delight in the car ride unless she falls asleep.

The car is usually soothing to babies. I would suggest you question her pediatrician about it. A pacifier may help if your baby will take one. You can also try sitting by your baby to comfort her while someone else drives whenever its an option.

Poor small girl….
When do you drive? Is it when she is settled after a feed? Or could she be tired or hungry?
Sounds like you have tried alot. Maybe having a few practice goes in the driveway? Open the car up, place the windows down. Place her in her carseat, try and distract her with amusing faces etc. Make a game out of it. Play with her for awhile and then take her out. Next time do the same thing until she is used to it. Then maybe keep the windows up and shut the car door etc…. Next time drive around the block, then a 5 min drive etc..
It might look a bit weird to your neighbours but hey if it works it’ll be worth it!!!
excellent luck with it.
ps have you tried sitting in the back with her while your partner is driving?

She might be stressed because she can’t see you. Maybe you could practice with her a small, when the car is cool enough that you can, place her in her seat and buckle her in. Stay with her so she sees you, give her a bottle or the pacifier if you use one. Try to keep her pleased and then take her out before she starts freaking out. If you can do this a few times with excellent results, plot a small car ride for practice and see how she does. It might work if she can get the concept that sometimes she can’t see you but she will see you again. That is a real confusing stage for babies! Other than that, you may need to wait a month or two while she grows out of the dread of having you out of sight. She will grow out of it eventually!
